Molla – media education in Kindergarten
Molla (media, participation, child) – project started in 2011 and is funded by the Finnish national board of education. The aim for the project is to show media world to pre-school and other children in a safe and participative environment. The project is produced in co-operation with Turku Top-centre and Viikki Campus of the University of Helsinki and is implemented in Lappeenranta, Lemi, Savitaipale and Taipalsaari regions.
Molla and Saimaa media centre bring media workshops that are free of charge and allow children and educators to participate within various elements in the area of media environment. In media workshops children may take pictures of their daily playgrounds, create animation telling stories, capture and listen the sounds of the world, make an own book together with friends and so on. The important part is that children can generate ideas, participate and learn something new. Working together is highlighted.
Molla- project is experimented on a few selected kindergartens at Lappeenranta and after suitable action model is captured other institutions will be included as well. Bringing creative new media into a kinderkarten is still new and hopefully will find its place next to ordinary models. New material not only make the children to
learn, but also challenge personnel to learn alternative teaching
methods. Within this project we aim to bring updated information and action models to people implementing media education at pre school education.
